I like Bridgestone tires. I'm just finishing off a set of the discontinued Potenza RE71, and although they were very soft and very good in the dry, they were outstanding wet weather tires too. Take a look at the Bridgestone Potenza RE730, which replaced the RE71. They're harder (300 vs. the RE71's 140 wear rating), but they still grip very well from what I've read. The 15" sizes range in price from $81 to $98 from the tire rack. The Falken Azenis look like a great high performance tire at a great price. The 205/50 size is only $70 from discounttiredirect.com, although they're selling fast and the size choices are limited.
I just bought a set of Kumho 712's because a lot of people seem to like them, and most of all they were inexpensive. I know they won't be as good as the more expensive high perf. tires, but I hope they're decent enough to use for auto-x. I haven't mounted them yet.
Good luck.
edit: I forgot to point out that discounttiredirect.com ships UPS ground for free.
