Fuel level sender replacement for 71 142e 140-160 1971

I had the same problem with my '71. I was able to find a good sender from an early 140, but found it fitted into a smaller hole in the tank so could not use it as-is. I found however that the resistance part is just the same as for a '71, so I got out the hacksaw and installed the early 'workings' onto my '71 mounting cap. It works perfectly! Hope this helps!
