Engine Flush 900

I noticed that when I take the oil filler cap off, and look down into the engine, the top part (excuse my ignorance please) is dark brown stained. Someone said maybe the former owner didn't change the oil when he was supposed to??? Anyway, it is safe to use an engine flush in the 940 Turbo engine , also is it safe to use risol (i think that's what it's called) to clean up the engine before next oil change.. I appreciate any ideas given
