I don't have any long term experience with the cable style assemblies. For the last ten years I have lived with wiper arms that slap the trim on both sides. I've taken these gear style assemblies apart to their smallest pieces, reassembled using the best(looking)pieces, and have never found a solution.
My friends with '68 122's never seemed to have a problem, so I looked up under there and lo, and behold- what in the heck is that?
Cable accuated assemblies seemed to be the way to go- it certainly solved my 10+ year problem. Again, I've only had it in the car for a little more than one blissful year. It sounds like, from your experience, these can go bad too.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for me, and I'll be on the lookout for a cable system for you. I got mine off E-bay but they come out of (all?) 1800's and '68 and later 122's
Driver side wiper only? Sounds like a good solution for now.
