Overheating? 200 1979

Don,

On a 240 with a Temp Comp board, is it possible that turning the heater on full would change the dash temp enough to "warp" that board or its contacts so that a normal reading is at least temporarily returned. I ask only beacuse as I have been trying to diagnose the "too cold" reading problem in my 93 240 (which also on those super hot days weeks ago also read near red-line).

Anyway, it seems that once the interior warms (or is cooled) to a certain temperature the needle starts doing its dance. I am assuming that it takes 20-30min because the heat or cool takes time to "fill" the dash. Am I crazy? Their are so many variables with this thing and I don't want to tear into my dash if it's not necessary (well, I do, but I should be studying for a bibilical greek exam).

Thanks. Especially for the digital temp idea. Can you point me to a part supplier or # for the guage, and did you route it to the interior? I'd love to just see the temp and rely on that.

P.S. - Since replacing the termostat (which was in with nipple at 6 o'clock) and orienting it correctly I have not go to the red line. Then again, it hasn't been above 60F since either.
