No offence, but I think you guys are missing the point. If the turbo is leaking oil, the drain pipe might be blocked. It will need to be cleaner or replaced. It needs to be detached from the underside, after removing the wastegagte actuating rod, an R&R job done, a new flat rubber block O-ring and a paper gasket.
Take the inlet hose off, a few clamps, and spin the turbo compressor with your finger. If it spins freely and has no side to side or end play, it's fine. If it's gritty or doesn't spin or is loose, it's time for a new one.
I still have the original turbo in my '86 744Ti at 290,000 miles. It's not water cooled either.
