I am taking a leak. 700 1998

My 88 740 with B 230 non turbo seems to have a chronic exhaust leak at the manifold to exhaust pipe connection. Recently purchased a new gasket at Pep Boys or some such place (can't remember where) and installed it with a layer of muffler cement on both sides. This gasket was not the crushable type or the donut type but was basically just a flat double layer of metal. Now it leaks again with the associated noise. Alignment of the flanges seemed OK but that is hard to tell. The 2 flanges did seem to pull together OK and I torqued the 3 nuts fairly tight.

Is there a better type of gasket to use for this application? Is there a source such as a Volvo dealer, cough, choke gasp or perhaps IPD, Groton etc.
