there's a very quick and easy way to test your Air Mass Meter. The AMM is between your air filter housing and throttle body. With the key off disconnect the electrical plug to AMM. Start car, if car runs better, idles smoother etc. it's your AMM. It could be fuel pressure regulator as stated by previous poster but the AMM is easy to check so I'd check that first. When I got my 87 240 back in Jan. it ran VERY rich and it turned out to be the AMM. I got my replacement at the junkyard for 35- and it's been perfect. If you go new for either part check out fcpgroton.com for best service and price. I'd had very good luck with them.
Good luck!
