Interchangability of engine ECU? 200 1988

I would not think the 561 from the 89-on cars with OBD, the 016 AMM and the bellhousing crank sensor would work well with the '88 cars. The 561 has enough problems itself. As for the 86-88 cars the 554 is supposed to superceed the 544 (511, 544 and 554 were used in the 85-88 cars)and solve a minor running at low speed issue, but the time I ran a 554 in my '86 245, I was not happy with the engine behavior at all.
