'86 245 Reverse light stays on

When you lift the plastic cover you'll see a black plastic gizmo (switch) attached next to the shifter assembly on the right side. It has contacts for starter lock-out and for the back-up lights. It's about 3" long and secured to a bracket with two screws.

I would start troubleshooting at this switch, since it controls the back-up lights.
