I don't think you can dismiss the wheel bearings so easily and quickly. Did you replace the inner as well as the outer bearings? It is also good practice to do both left and right wheels in order to keep them maintained together. Believe me this will save you headaches in the future.

I had a similar noise in my front end in my '93 240 with 150k miles and it made the rumbling and squeaking sounds when turning left in the rotaries in MA. The volvo repair shop dismissed it saying they didn't think it was bearings. I insisted that they go ahead and replace both inner and outer bearings on both left and right side. Problem fixed and I have peace of mind that both are now up to spec, and likely good for another 150k miles. I just wish that I had known about the brickboard then, as I might have tackled the work myself and saved some money.

I suppose there is a chance that it could be bad motor mounts and the turning causes the fan to strike the fan shroud(?) I know this is just guessing, but if your stumped i guess it's worth a look as well.
