The colors get a lot warmer, which contributes to the decay.

ANY finish, however, that isn't cared for, is susceptible to clearcoat peeling. My personal advice is to use a good wax, and wax frequently. It usually does the trick, even if you already see a sign or two of impending clearcoat disaster.
