Using lighter when cars off

Be careful with that - lighters have a SERIOUS current draw, you wouldn't want to fry other wiring. Best way would be to probe around the fuse box to find a permanently hot one of identical or better rating than the one the lighter is on officially, then wire it up using a wire of sufficient size for that current.
