Clutch performance, inconsistent 700

Unfortunately, this seems to be pretty standard behavior for high mileage M46's.
I don't believe that it is caused by the clutch, but rather by worn synchros. Synthetic fluid may help (Redline MTL or Amsoil).

There is also a reverse detent adjustment which can get out of whack and make it almost impossible for one to shift into first gear when the car is stationary. If memory serves, there is info. about adjusting this back to spec. in the FAQ and/or archives.
