Flame Trap replacement 200 1981

I've got a 1981 245 and I have been trying to reach the flame trap for hours. Is it easier to reach it from underneath the car? What are some of the unique ideas you have used to replace the hard to reach flame trap? Someone mentioned removing the intake manifold... is this necessary?
