Maybe I can help here. I made plexiglass furniture (in the '70's) and used ultra fine sandpaper to polish the plexi before buffing. The finest wet/dry paper available was 600, but there is/was? a product on a fine cloth back using aligned silica as the abrasive with numbers in the thousands. Worked great and often I cound bypass buffing. Automotive compound I found was still too hazy, but may in fact be acceptable for the lights.
I just replaced one of mine that turned yellow; seemed to have been the plexi discoloring and not just the surface. I may have been hasty - let me know what you do. Jim Weiss
