I second rhaire's comments -- the central spindle is the weak link. I've done this job four times; the first two times I stripped the threads on the central spindle. While I was using this tool, I got into the habit of ordering a new central spindle from Volvo -- $25 or so.
An alternative would be to rent Duane Hoberg's version. He's had a new central spindle machined out of a tougher alloy with a different thread design. I've rented from him several times; he reported to me recently that after about 10 uses or so he can't discern any wear or distortion on the threads.
