second-hand engine block

Hi Pierre -

Things I would check: (1) is it a block that will fit your Volvo exactly? A B23F may or may not fit a B230F car, for example. (2) I take it that you saw the block with the coolant in the cylinders, right? Was the head removed? Any way you can check for how much oil is in the coolant? More = better.
(3) Will the crank turn? Put a socket on a breaker bar and try it. No turn may mean the pistons have siezed onto the cylinder walls. The block may still be useful, but with a lot more work and therefore at a much lower price.

Good Luck,

Bob
