Simple Overheating Problem??? 200 1978

Hi Dino ....

Had a bit of overheating trouble a while back with my 122 and B 20 .... so bought a new VOLVO thermostat and installed it .... and the overheating continued .. even though I had the rad and the engine professionally cleaned. What worked for me was when I remembered that the thermostat I remove did not have the bypass valve on it .... so using the old trusty Dremel, I removed the round thing on the bottom of the thermostat and reinstalled it. I have just returned from a 2900 mile round trip to the Canadian Volvo Club meet in Ilderton, Ontario in very hot weather without encountering any problems of overheating either in city traffic or running at highway speeds ... I also installed a catch bottle for any overflow and it seems to work well on the system even though the '65 radiator wasn't set up for an overflow ... Well, anyway some ideas to try .... worked for me ...
