I've had a decent amount of success using a drill (need a new, sharp bit) to make a small hole in the metal rim of the seal, and then threading a screw in and using a claw end of a hammer to pull the seal out. It needs to be a sharp but to keep it from walking around or requiring too much pressure and setting the seal deeper in it's seat.
