I have a 1990 740 non-turbo. I had the in-tank fuel pump replaced about 6 months ago when the car wouldn't start after being run for a while. I know(now) that the fuel pump wasn't the problem, didn't fix it, but I did replace the radio suppression relay and that took care of it (expensive lesson, I should have checked this forum before doing it.) Now, about a week ago, the car kept stalling, finally wouldn't start at all. Took it to another mechanic, he said the in-tank fuel pump was bad so replaced it again! Now, the car starts but runs rough, and gets worse when the gas tank is half-empty, stalls out when coming to a stop with the clutch in or in neutral. I really don't want to believe it's another bad pump. Suggestions on what else it could be?
