Last summer I put the VX camp from IPD and the adjustable cam gear into my new-to-me '92 245 with M47. A few weeks later the exhaust system fell apart, so I installed the sport exhaust system as well(turbo muffler & pipe, no front muffler). I experimented and ended up with about 5 degrees advance on the cam, which puts power where I can use it most, coming in strong at about 2700 rpm. On my daily 80-mile round trip in hilly western CT, the result is that I use about one gear higher than I used to on any given hill. On the highway, the car's "happy speed" is 75-80... seems to sit there with little throttle pressure.
If you do change a cam, however, ALWAYS check the valves. It's easy to do while the VC is off. Also, make sure you slather all moving surfaces with assembly lube before you hit the starter (cam bearings and cam lobes).
