The Ken Cook company used to handle the Volvo Service Manuals. They were at 1-800-25-VOLVO. You are right about the odd ring placement, however that is a placement used by other books, too. Look at the binders (before computers) that parts catalogs were on at an AutoZone or some such place.

I purchased several sets of brushes from an online house, maybe it was alloemparts, I can't recall. They cost $2.00 a set so I got 6 sits (have 3 daily drivers) to make the shipping fee "worth it". You might contact fpcghroton, or one of the other places that advertise on the B-Board.
