knock sensor gone, temp fix? 700 1989

1989 760ti wagon 2.3 four b230ft

i did as suggested, and tested my knock sensor with a multimeter, and found no resistance, indicating that my sensor was faulty. could i retard the time by adjusting the position of the distributer to temporarily aid in fixing the problem? just a thought, don't shoot me down too hard. thanks
