so really the car is an automatic? 200 1991

yes the car is a automatic. the problem is that the square button on top of the shift lever will not go down (engage) the button is suppose to allow you to move the trans. from park to reverse and drive.. i know that the brake pedal must be pushed down but it still will not allow it to be depressed. therefore i cannot get the car in reverse or drive.. was wondering if this is a electrical problem of mechanical..
