How to test drive/check a 95' 940 wagon?

Hi, Chris
I¡¯ve checked the car out. It was a bad experience ;-(
I got there 11:00am Sat morning. The sales rep pulled out the car. The body was very good, like brand new, however when I turned on the engine, the ¡°check engine¡± light lit up. Not only this, I felt the engine did not run well, even worse than my 240 with 140k miles on it. Then, I asked the rep why the car¡¯s engine was so bad with less than 60k miles. You know what, the rep told me the mileage on the meter is NOT ACTUAL MILEAGE ¨C what¡¯s a surprise. Anyway, I thought, I could drive it. Once I hit on the road, I felt the there was a long time lag between my stepping on the gas and the car¡¯s accelerating. I speed to 50 mph, and step on the brake, it won¡¯t stop until it passed a very long distance. I would say, I thought the brake was not functioning. I was so scared that I gave up the idea to test the car on highway. This is it. Like what you said ¨C you get what you paid for. The car was not worth $6300. I would say the repair job may cost another $4000 at least (not sure).
So, I have to continue my hunting for a Volvo. Now, I am thinking, 96¡¯, 97¡¯ 850 SW maybe a better choice. I better looking for both 940 and 850. Originally, I was just looking at 95¡¯ 940 SW. What¡¯s your suggestion?
Thanks for your help!
- Shawn
