Engine swap? 200

Hello again, my 1990 Volvo 240dl...the engine and transmission both have lot of miles on them. My girlfriend is selling her 1978 244dl, with about 140,000. This car is a monster, but cancer is soon to take it's life. Would I be able to swap the engine and transmission into my car? What are som suggestions and preparations? Thanks peoples!
