Charles I would not mess with the distributor shaft seal unless there is lots of oil inside the distributor cap. If you think there is oil leaking out from around the distributor you might consider replacing the 2 o-rings, they are cheap and it is a very easy job. But of course if there are no leaks just leave "good enough" alone and sell the damn thing!
