In the past week or so I have taken my 240 Volvo four times to two different mechanics and spent about $400 trying to fix an overheating problem and I just got the car back today and it's still overheating!!! Every time I get it back the problem seems to have been fixed to some degree, but it still hasn't been completely solved. Can anyone help me to solve this problem because I don't want to have to get rid of this car!!!
Now the car seems to run ok for a while (i.e. temp gauge needle is staying slightly below mid mark), but then it will rise above the mark and then after a short while drop back down and fluctuate slowly around the mid mark. Then for a while it was staying pretty steady about 3/4 of the way up the gauge. When I turn the fan on high the needle drops so it is definitely not just a sensor malfunction. Previously all the coolant had been leaking out after letting the car sit for a while or after driving it around for a while. I'm currently letting the car sit at this moment to see if it is still leaking.
Here is what has been done to the car as far as I can remember:
-shot antifreeze hoses near firewall replaced
-stop-leak fluid put in
-temp sensor replaced
-temp sender unit swapped w/ another used one (it looked like coolant was fizzing out of the block right onto it)
-tightened some loose bolt near or on the block that a leak seemed to be coming from
-heater core hoses replaced
-sprayed the radiator off with a high pressure hose to clear any debris
If anyone has ANY suggestions please help me because I don't want this to turn into a reason to get rid of the car. Thanks.
