Distributor oil leaks are a real common problem, made worse of course by plugged flame traps. I saw *A LOT* of distributors get replaced at the dealership due to incurable leaks. It's definitely worth trying the o-rings given the high cost of a distributor, especially on the pre-89 cars with the Hall sensor in it. But the later ones aren't exactly cheap either.
