You could always implement a high tech infrared grid under the engine compartment. Any interruption of the beam would trigger a load warning to the violating critter:

"Scurry away from the vehicle. Pest control has been contacted and is en route. You have ten seconds before this vehicle releases a 4lb Aibo. You have been warned... EEEeek!"
