I have used a stiff putty knife (a painter's 5-in-1 is perfect) to pry these up and off. Just use a couple folds of soft cloth under the "pry bar" (putty knife)to protect the paint in the process. The wrap around tabs that fold around the edges may need to be loosened with a small screwdriver.
