You might check the FAQ's, as there is a pretty good section on timing belt replacements there. I needed a belt when I got my '89 740, and after reading the FAQ I was sufficiently convinced that I didn't have the skill (or the relatively expensive tools!) to do it myself ... hopefully the same doesn't apply to you!
