recommend a multimeter?

I just received a Fluke 8024B that I purchased on E-Bay. Cost me $20 delivered. It is an older model, but an excellent meter. If you are looking to buy one meter to last the rest of your life, get a good one- a Fluke. Check the prices at:

The 189 goes for about $225 on E-bay. It is awesome. ALso take a look at some of the digital scopes. They are amazing.

There are other models more affordable. Flukes offer a lifetime warranty.

If all you need is volt/ohm functions then a RadioShack or Sears meter is sufficient. One with temperature finction and an included probe can be handy when checking air conditioning problems or radiator function, but for most folks there are some that sell for $10-25 that are sufficient. Specifically, this Radio Shack model is an excellent choice for casual use and is highly portable: http://tinyurl.com/2wc2
And it's on sale!
