Installing a temp guage for the tranny

Hey, Tim, I think you are farting in the right general direction: "but what about a good tailwind on level ground? Or just going downhill? Or just plain level ground? Can a person run with OD on during these situations?"

My limited towing experience was bringing an Amazon from Texas to Minnesota behind a '87 745. (Braking could have REALLY been the issue!)

Use of OD seemed just like when you ride a bicycle: when you are cranking hard and loading parts you know it (just try to shift!), and when you are loafing you are also aware, as in "Ah, downhill... I'll just loaf with a little pressure on thr pedals to keep the speed up."

You are not really loading the OD when gently encouraging everything downhill.
Uphill is another matter.

Err... ease up on the gas when shifting into and out of OD. Its gratitude is apparent!
