engine conversion on 780 700

A few days ago I posted a report that I had located a primo 780 with the bad news that it was a V6. I asked for comments on that engine.

One person suggested a V8 conversion. Hmmmmmm. Lotsa power, but I've got another idea:

Has anyone ever used a Ford Ranger V6 + 5 speed drive train for a conversion? The weight would be close to original, and there are tons of them so it would be easy enough to find a 5 speed.

This combo might work with other series as well.
