Ignore the "naysayers"
This job is easier than, say, changing strut inserts.
And your pre-'91 glass isn't glued in anyhow. Buytl-rubber caulk is all. Just sticky caulk. That's probably dried by now, causing some leaking.
I took great effort to list the step-by-step R&R procedure I used about 2 years ago.
My method does call for urethane (glue) to set the replacement glass. And urethane will increase the "structural integrity" four-fold, according to reports I discovered.
Try searching for the post by my user name and see if you get some about "Windshield Replacement" or similar.
And start asking around for some used "piano wire"
