If you walk up to the dealer service counter, it will be 2-3 thou to replace the AW71 with a factory rebuilt unit.

I would never bother, because the AW71 transmissions are common in junkyards, and as a result you can pick them up for cheap. Even if you don't do the installation, you should be able to get someone to do it for a few hundred bucks. It takes the sting out of transmission replacement. There's no need to spend a lot of money having a reworked one installed.
