Flame Trap Specifics

Sounds good to me. Black stuff may have been carbon deposits blowing out that have now cleared. One side effect of replacing the flame trap as you did I found was the brake vacuum pressure went up a bit meaning more powerful brakes that didn't feel spongy anymore.
