960 Wagon Electronic Shift Buttons

Yeah that's normal, with the W lit up the tranny is locked in 3rd gear, comes in handy when its slick out, don't over do the throttle though, if it starts slipping in 3rd those rear wheels start to spin at a very fast speed. Which can cause a spin out in a split second.
Did your owners manual come with the car? It is worth the read if it did.
