You could probably fix it. If you're hell bent on the CR-712 there are probably a few tips lurking in the archives on how to fix it up.

I wouldn't bother. Go buy a cheapie unit somewhere. I had a $100 (incl installation) Blaupunkt Manhattan in my Taurus. Loved it. A used Volvo unit will be more expensive and lower quality than nearly any other aftermarket unit.
