How much time elapsed between replacing the heater core and the catastrophic loss of coolant? Less than a couple weeks, I would say something is fishy...

Did the dealer recommend replacing the heater hoses? Did you accept or decline this recommendation? Regardless, the heater hoses, heater control valve, radiator, radiator hoses, thermostat... etc basically the whole cooling system should have been replaced after 10 years.
