Battery out, disassemble, dish soap and water in the kitchen sink, swish it around, rinse, THOROUGHLY air dry, reassemble, battery in, test. There's a 50% chance that it will work, which is 100% better than what it is doing now.

If the coffee had cream and sugar in it, the solution is probably gummed up in the microswitches.
