You could try the hack, hillbilly last resort technique, Take a vicegrip and clamp it to the strut shaft in the fenderwell, and then try the air gun at the same time. This is a last resort, but it will allow you to keep the shaft from spinning. Unfortunately, once you clamp to the shaft, it will obviously have to come off, as it will destroy the shaft.
