Adding to David's good comment, the sensor might be good, but the connection to it might be bad. (Seen it happen in a '90 745 -- 'twas a real head-scratcher.)
If the sensor is open (you say it's not) or the connection or wiring is bad, the ecu will infer that the engine is about minus a zillion degrees, plus or minus a few. The ecu will co pensate for this very cold condition by pouring in the gas, flooding it.
If this is the cause, check the oil -- it might be loaded with gas. If so, dump it. Not only are the lubricating properties reduced, the fumes create an explosion hazard.
The proper temp sensor is a two-wire device located in the head under intake header #3.
