Without trying to sound like I think this is a good idea let me suggest that a more likely approach would involve finding an older parts car somewhere in a junkyard and just getting the entire dash assembly out of it, gauges and all. The dash is probably still there even the most stripped junk yard car, but the gauges might not be there.
The fuel and temp gauges on the E will not work with the older gauges. The temp gauges are mechanical on the older ones and rarely read correctly if they work at all.
