Washer system design? 700

My windshield washers finally became pathetic, just oozing out bubbles....and the rear one hasn't worked for months, so I had to take the whole mess out.
Last year, when the T-splitter/one way valve plugged up with it's own internals I just pulled out the disintegrated gasket and epoxied the vent hole shut.
But then I discovered there is a another one way valve/splitter down near the tank. This ones a bit different though. It lets air INTO the system, but doesnt allow anything out (good thing since you'd then squirt your fluid all over the fender.
Anyway, I removed the tank and motors (it's a wagon, so ones for the rear window) Hooked them up in the basement and let em rip.
Yhe best one went about 6 feet, the worst about 3.
Turns out they all worked, so just put em back, cleaned the tank.
Left off the lower valve/splitter. I'll see if it makes any difference.
Works great now.........strange......
