Help anyone, who does this work? 700

My 1988 745ti is smoking water, a lot. Like when boiling pasta. Now, the head gasket may be gone, this is a real possibility, but none of the other tell tale signs are there. So, as my turbo is watercooled, is it possible that water enters the exhaust gases in the turbo thus creating the smoke? I have no noticable loss of coolant but I suppose that not much would be needed to make loads of steam. Is it possible that a bad catalytic converter can cause this?
