Alternator Problems 200 1984

Key on, engine not running, also known as Position II and the bulb test position. Any required bulb not lit then is burned out. All lights should go out when the engine begins running. If not - problems.

Your symptoms are hard to get a diagnosis from. Only thing I can come up with is too loose alternator belts.

Oh, and have you replaced the red exciter wire? Runs from the back of the alternator (the thin one) to the gray connector on the firewall. Its route under the front of the engine often leads to chafing and intermittent grounding.
Such grounding would cause the alt light to flicker, maybe. Problem is, while that wire is grounded, the alt. isn't charging.

Good Luck,

Bob
