The Hall effect connector is easy to replace. See this post by jim from Monday, 26 2000, http://www.brickboard.com/ARCHIVES/2000JUN/20089006.shtml. If I get lucky it will be attached to the bottom of this post. If you have trouble, ship me the distributor and I can do it for you.
